In recent years, Charles Collier, has had conversations with alumni that have turned more on questions of meaning than of money. "I've been pushed by Harvard alumni to help them have conversations in their marriage and in their family about difficult subjects involving money and what's important to them.” Perhaps mom and dad don't want junior to get all the inheritance, but want to give away a chunk to fight global warming or poverty; how do they break it to their child?"
In this interactive session, Mr. Collier will discuss the challenges and opportunities that families face and how breakthrough conversations can strengthen a family. He will also discuss strategies for raising children who are financially and philanthropically responsible.
Charles W. Collier is the senior philanthropic adviser at Harvard University. He has worked with hundreds of individuals to shape their philanthropy, help them make tax-wise gift decisions, and advise them on family relationship issues surrounding wealth. He serves on the committee on the Emotional and Psychological Issues in Estate Planning of the American Bar Association. Mr. Collier holds a BA from Dartmouth College and an MTS from Harvard Divinity School. A second edition of his book, Wealth in Families, was published by Harvard University in 2006.
